Today we received a new comment on the blog with regards to our “Setting a Budget” post. I felt it was so well written that it was worth responding to in full. The comment was from Oliver Ker, a freelance designer from Huddersfield, UK.
Thanks to Oliver for taking the time to write such an interesting [...]
I’ve briefly explained in my first post the reasoning behind setting up our own online shop. For us at carrotmedia it’s going to be a learning experience to make us better at our job. However, we have an alternative motive!
We want to give back to the community something which they can keep and learn from [...]
Early in my business life I had to part with a business partner who helped me develop carrotmedia (my day job) in the first 2 years of trading. Unfortunately we had to part ways which fortunately were extremely amicable and we remain friends to this day. However, this process could have been much simpler and [...]
We decided early on that we were going to develop Eliot Turner on a shoe string budget. Setting up the experiment was going to be fun, setting it up in a “recession” was going to be fun, doing it on a budget would make it incredible.
We have therefore decided on a budget of £1000 which [...]
If you look at the most successful online shops in the market place you will see they rely heavily on email marketing. Therefore it’s really important that we build an opt-in email database rapidly. We do name generation processes for new start-ups at carrotmedia so when it came to developing the name [...]
We aren’t aiming to compete with the big boys in the market place and needed an edge that sets us apart. Therefore we are going to use small local suppliers with unique hand made products.
We want everyone to be successful and if that means giving away “trade secrets” about marketing, sales tunnels, banking tips, usability, design and checkout procedures then so be it.
I’m prepared to put my money where my mouth is to prove this point. Every member of the carrotmedia team will become a director and shareholder in the new ecommerce business. We are a united team and in order to ensure the success of the project we need teamwork and dedication. If I truly belief that the team is as strong as I say, then why wouldn’t I want every member to be a director. To this end we have discussed shareholding and come to a fair agreement as to the division of the company between us all.
